COLOR RUN: Amanda The Panda Helping The Grieving | Community Spirit
A death in the family hits everybody hard but none more so than children. But there is one local organization that has been there for those grieving. Now, supporters are coming together to fundraise and remember their loved ones in a colorful way.
The 2013 Colors of Hope 5K Run/Walk is being organized by Amanda the Panda Family Grief Center on May 11th.
Formed in 1980, the West Des Moines nonprofit has offered comprehensive and ongoing services for children, teens, adults and families struggling with a death of a loved one. The event has become an annual tradition for children and families who are grieving.
This year there will be a festival, free food, kids activities and a "Memory Lane" for the deceased loved ones. Runners will also set off to a confetti explosion and will get pelted with colored flour.
The run will start at the Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines from 5 – 8 p.m. All proceeds go to the charity.
