PROMISING NUMBERS: Construction On The Up | Business
West Des Moines had its third best year of construction in 2012. It’s the best since 2008, before the financial crisis when there was a high of $490 million. It’s calculated from the property value of permits issued.
The Des Moines Register reports that the property value of permits issued last year was $310.59 million, more than double the $142.3 million issued in 2011.
Residential permits accounted for nearly half of the overall valuation.
The West Des Moines school district completed work on several buildings, including Valley High School, Walnut Creek Campus and Stillwell Junior High School, accounted for a large portion of those permits, the Register adds.
